Hi Ann,
I pulled out my extra set of sails today, looked them over and took photos.
The mainsail is a Rolly Tasker and in what I would call "very good" condition with one small exception.
There is a tiny mouse nibble hole near the bottom center of the sail. It is very small (less than the length of a quarter) and apparently on an edge where the sail was folded.
It's not near any stress area and I believe it would be fine with a half dollar sized piece of sail repair tape applied to each side of the sail.
I would fix it myself except that I am out of sail repair tape and need to order some.
The sail is still pretty crisp (not quite the "crackle" of a new sail), but definitely not the limp noodle effect of a worn out sail. It sill makes noise when you handle it.
There are a few places where you will see some threads along the sail edge, but it is just where the fabric was cut and not a part of the stitching.
There are a few minor water stains which were probably from wasp nests. I've not tried to clean the sail as I would rather sell it like it is so you can see the shape it is in, but based on my experience cleaning other sails it looks like it would clean up very nicely.
I'd say that this sail has years of life left in it.
There was also a used jib in the set. It is a Neil Pryde / O'day tagged sail.
It is definitely an older sail and it has a few small mouse holes as well (apparently the PBO had some mice issues).
It's not crisp by any means, but the holes appear to be in non-critical areas and again a little sail tape on each side would make it a serviceable jib. It's dirty and could use a cleaning too.
As a point of reference, I have never used these sails myself.
The PBO had gotten into racing and bought a new set from Precision Sails and they are so new that they still crackle like rice paper so I have had no need of the old ones.
I'll price the mailsail at $400.00 and you can have the jib to go with it.
